What is KYC?

KYC stands for 'Know Your Client'. It is a Client Identification Process.

Why do I need to do KYC?

Under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act 2002, KYC compliance is a must for investors who want to invest Rs.50,000 /- and above in mutual fund schemes.

What documents do I require to get my KYC done?

Along with the completed KYC form, you need to attach the following documents:

Proof of Identity
Proof of Address
PAN Card
Photograph

Where do I submit my application for KYC?

The application along with self attested photocopies of the relevant documents have to be submitted at any of the Points of Service (POS) in your city. Please carry the originals with you for verification purpose.

Do I have to personally visit the POS to obtain KYC Compliance?

No. If you are not in a position to visit the POS personally, the KYC Application Form along with the necessary documents can be sent through a distributor or representative, who can arrange to fulfill the KYC obligation and obtain the KYC Acknowledgement on your behalf.

Do I have to repeat the KYC process with every new investment?

There is no need to repeat the KYC process individually for each Mutual Fund Company / scheme. It is a one time process. Once the KYC procedure is completed in all respects, the investor needs to produce a copy of the acknowledgement to the fund where he / she desires to invest.
